How zoning works

The Scarsdale Union Free School District has five elementary schools, and enrollment in one of them “is determined by the neighborhood in which you reside,” in the district’s words.1 Each school has an attendance area, and in conversation those areas are the neighborhoods: people say they live “in Fox Meadow” or “in Quaker Ridge” and mean the school zone.

Zones follow streets and property lines. They don’t always match the names on a listing or the association a street belongs to, and a border street can be split. That is why we treat the registrar’s answer, not the marketing name, as the fact.

Whatever the elementary, every child then goes to the same Scarsdale Middle School and Scarsdale High School.1

Enrollment ranges from about 350 students (Greenacres) to about 520 (Fox Meadow) in the NCES 2024–25 count.2 The ages of the buildings track the town’s growth: Greenacres (1917) and Edgewood (1918) in the first suburban wave, Fox Meadow (1928) in the 1920s boom, Quaker Ridge (1947) and Heathcote (1953) after the war.3

Zone map

We don’t redraw the boundaries ourselves, because a copy can go out of date. Use the official attendance map linked from the district’s overview page.1

Confirming an address

  1. Check the tax bill: the school line should read Scarsdale UFSD (an Edgemont address will show Edgemont UFSD).
  2. Find the street on the district map.
  3. Call or email the District Registrar with the exact address: (914) 721-2444, registrar@scarsdaleschools.org.1
  4. Do it before you sign, and keep the answer in writing.

Questions

How many elementary schools are in Scarsdale?

Five: Edgewood, Fox Meadow, Greenacres, Heathcote and Quaker Ridge, each serving kindergarten through grade 5.

How do I find out which elementary school serves a house?

Use the district’s attendance map, then confirm with the District Registrar at (914) 721-2444 or registrar@scarsdaleschools.org. Boundaries follow streets, so neighbors on a border street can be zoned differently.

Can I choose a different Scarsdale elementary school?

Enrollment is determined by the neighborhood you live in, according to the district. Ask the registrar about any exceptions.

Do all elementary schools feed the same middle school?

Yes. All five feed Scarsdale Middle School (grades 6–8) and then Scarsdale High School (grades 9–12).
